Limit order vs market order

Main Post:

I see everywhere on this sub that we should always do a limit order and not a market order. I invest DCA every 2 weeks with recurring buy of ETF i own, but how does limit order work for a newbie like me and how to make it work in WS, cause i wanna juste recuring invest and not think about it.

Thx

Top Comment: On recurring youll be buying with market orders. Tbh, you should really only use limit orders on really big orders, i.e. thousand dollars lump sums

Why did my limit order execute at higher than market price?

Main Post:

Hi, I wanted to buy an ETF, so I set a limit order slightly higher than market price (31.7 while both ask and bid price were 31.49xx). The order got executed immediately, but I bought the ETF for 31.695 per piece, while the ask price was still below 31.5 at that moment and for the next at least five minutes. Why did not I buy for the ask price? Thank you

Internal Market capacity reduced by 20-100+% in 3.8

Main Post:

In case you didn't know there is a maximum amount of resourses you can buy and sell each month without changing the price of the resources on your internal market.

Using "Automatic Trade" deals is a great way to balance your economy. Buying 10 alloys per month for 13 months cost the same as buying 125 alloys, netting you a profit of 5 alloys. But the advantage doesn't stop there. Once your purchase price leaves the base price it will keep escalating until your resources are either unaffordable from over buying or worthless from overselling.

In the current patch a bug fix to "tick selling" also had the added effect of changing how much you can safely buy/sell each month while keeping control of your internal market. The maximum buy orders went down by ~20% but the maximum sell orders went down by over 100%.

So if you are experiencing issues balancing your economy in the new patch, this might be it.

Top Comment: This seems as good a place as any to say that I hope Megacorps get a market focused civic eventually.

Limit order and Outside RTH

Main Post:

Should I use outside RTH with limit orders? Can someone briefly explain what are the benefits and drawbacks of using it? There is a yellow warning next to the RTH toggle in my limit order.

Top Comment: The yellow warning attached to the clock sign indicates that you can buy or sell selected stock outside RTH. It’s used to buy or sell during Pre-Market and Post-Market. You can limit your order just like RTH orders. But there’s just less supply and demand since it’s outside RTH. So your order might not fill or fill partially depending on the volume.
